Following the success of Push the Boat Out, the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) are offering a whole summer of sailing with even more opportunities to for everyone to get out on the water.

Supported by the RYA, some 30 venues will be hosting Try Sailing events across the UK, perfect if you missed Push the Boat Out or want another chance to experience the feeling of being on the water. The free or low cost Try Sailing & Windsurfing events run across the region until August.

With hands on activities planned throughout the summer and with volunteers and professional qualified instructors on hand, these events will provide you with a safe and fun introduction or return to sailing and windsurfing. All you have to do is to visit our website and click on one of these events below to find out more about what’s on offer.

Robbie Bell, RYA Regional Development Officer for the East Region said: “Whether sailing is something you’ve never tried and always wanted to give ago, or if you’re looking to get back into it after a number of years away from the sport, the Try Sailing events provide the perfect opportunity to get out on the water this summer.”

John Aston, Commodore at Grafham Water Sailing Club, whose Try Sailing event is on Saturday 06 July encourages the public to give sailing a go: “Come along between 10:30am and 15:30pm and we can offer you a great introduction to sailing or windsurfing. Qualified instructors and other experienced sailors will be there to help you. Adults and children (over eight) welcome and the cost is £10 per person.”

Horning Sailing Club, based on the Norfolk Broads, is hosting two afternoon sessions on Saturday 13 and Saturday 20 July. The first is aimed at ladies only, the second open to all. Club Commodore Kevin Edwards said “We are looking forward to running these Try Sailing sessions in July and introducing members of the public to sailing at Horning. With a new adult training programme having begun on Saturdays this year, it is the perfect time to get into sailing here.”

Meanwhile, Kevin O’Brien, Commodore at Fishers Green Sailing Club agrees that there has never been a better time to try sailing, saying “Have you ever wanted to try dinghy sailing but were unsure what is involved? Why not come along to our Try Sailing sessions on Saturday 20 July. Our tasters sessions are just £5 for a 45 minute sailing experience. Club sailors will take you out on our lake in a sailing dinghy or powerboat, and our friendly club members will be on shore to chat about how you can get involved. Once you have seen our beautiful location – a hidden gem just outside the M25, north of London on the Essex/Hertfordshire border – you will realise why we are more than just a sailing club!

All are welcome to get on the water through the Try Sailing events - Find your nearest taster session here.
