This summer the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) sees the return of its national ‘Try Sailing campaign which will see some 30 venues across the UK host ‘Try Sailing’ events offering free or low cost sailing and windsurfing taster sessions from June – September 2019.

Supported by the RYA, the nationwide events provide the chance for people to discover the feeling of being on the water, whilst sampling life at a local club or centre. No experience is necessary, there will be opportunities for all abilities to 'have a go'!

With activities planned throughout the summer months and with volunteers and qualified instructors on-hand, the open days provide a safe and fun introduction, or return to sailing and windsurfing.

Dinton Activity Centre close to Reading and Wokingham is running free Try Sailing sessions on 20 July, 18 August and 8 September, from 11.00 am to 17.00 pm each day. You can book here

Dinton is a recognised RYA Training Centre. This means it conforms to the highest standards of quality and safety, and awards certificates that are recognised and respected the world over. The centre will provide all of the equipment and information you need and give you a superb introduction to sailing.

Dinton activity centre manager, Tanya Lee said “We always look forward to our Try Sailing events as it’s a lovely opportunity to engage with people who might not have otherwise thought of learning to sail. By breaking down the barriers of cost, people are more willing to give something a go. We are very confident that our instructors will provide a fantastic experience to those who book, as our tuition uptake after these events gets a real boost”.

Counsellor Parry Batth, executive member for environment and leisure, added: “It’s fantastic to see such superb sailing courses available on Wokingham Borough residents’ doorstep. Not only does Dinton Pastures Country Park provide a beautiful backdrop, but people can enjoy exceptional training from the Dinton Activity Centre training instructors at an unbeatable introductory price.”

Steve Mitchell, RYA regional development officer for the London and the South East, said: "The Try Sailing sessions provide the perfect opportunity to experience dinghy sailing for the first time or for people thinking about returning to the sport. The adventure begins here so whether you are an individual, a family or a couple the venue will have an expert team on hand to take you on the water to help you have a fantastic session, and will do all they can to ease you into the sport.”
