Sam will take up a full time position as a Kent firefighter, having been involved as a retained firefighter for several years.

Helen Hofmann, RYA regional chair, and Bernard Sealy, East Kent Yachting Association chair, made a presentation to Sam with thanks for his dedication over many years.

Helen said: "A huge thanks to Sam for his role as RYA sailing development officer. With his guidance, many Kent and Sussex clubs have seen significant club growth and development. We wish Sam every success as he enters a new phase with his family, and look forward to seeing him out on the water and supporting RYA initiatives when he can."

RYA regional development officer Steve Mitchell added: “Sam has been a crucial member of the team and has made an incredible contribution to the sport over the years. It’s been a pleasure working with him we wish him all the success in his new job.

“I’m pleased to say that Sam will be supporting our future conferences and workshops where his new job allows and he will also continue as an RYA coach assessor and centre inspector.”

Sam responded: “It’s been a great pleasure working with a huge number of dedicated volunteers and professionals across sailing and windsurfing in the South East. I’ve been lucky to be involved with some fantastic initiatives, and enjoyed a variety of experiences both on and off the water. I’d like to thank everyone I’ve worked with for their time and enthusiasm which has made my role easier and will look forward to seeing you on the water soon.”
