In 2018, for the first time, the British Youth Sailing Regional Junior Championships (previously known as the Zone Squads) will include a Fun OnBoard Fleet.
Below is all the information you need if you are thinking about attending an event near you.
The BYS Regional Junior Champs is an event organised and run by the RYA over one weekend in various locations across the country. Previously called the Zone Champs there have traditionally been two fleets - the Championship Fleet and the Regatta fleet.
This year we are excited to announce the inclusion of a third fleet for those relatively new to the sport of sailing - the Fun OnBoard Fleet. This fleet will be hosted by qualified RYA coaches and will focus around 'Games with Aims' rather than racing. Entries into this fleet will ideally be under 13.
There are five events across the country, detailed below:
- South and South West - Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy
- East - Grafham Water Sailing Club
- London and South East - Queen Mary Sailing Club
- Midlands - Northampton Sailing Club
- North - Ullswater Sailing Club
This year's event will take place on the 29th and 30th of September 2018.
How do I get involved?
If you are a club or centre and would like to promote this fantastic opportunity to your young sailors then please download the 2018 poster and display it in your club house or on your training room notice board.
If you would like to bring a group of sailors to an event and would also like to help out we would love to hear from you. Please get in touch with Hannah.email@example.com. We are looking for volunteers and instructors to help with the OnBoard Fleet.
To enter please click here and select the event you wish to attend.
Sailing is for everyone and we want to give everyone the opportunity to take part in events they may not have otherwise thought about.
The Junior Champs are a great way to experience travelling, sail at another location, meet new friends, learn new skills and most importantly have fun!
