Give your club a boost - Get OnBoard!
Since launching in 2005, sailing and windsurfing clubs and centres across the UK have seen member numbers and revenues increase as a direct result of the OnBoard programme.
Boosting junior membership, gaining greater awareness within the local community and making a difference to the lives of young people taking part are just some of the ways in which participating clubs and centres have benefited. Visit our case studies page
for further details. Specifically, OnBoard is proven to:
- Increase take up of junior and family memberships
- Improve club or centres financial revenue
- Spread sailing outside of those families that already sail
- Provide those young people taking part with new skills and knowledge that they can apply on and off the water
- Help with the retention of existing members
- Gain recognition for clubs and centres in the local area and beyond
This year we are refreshing OnBoard with extensive new resources to make running the programme easier and help ensure its success for both existing OnBoard clubs/centres and new clubs/centres wanting to get involved.
All clubs receive programme support from their RYA Regional Development Officer and Sport Development Team, as well as advice on junior activities, club facilities and equipment.
This year, clubs will also benefit from new instructor session cards and a range of exclusive offers and discounts from leading sailing and windsurfing suppliers including Harken, ICOM, RS Sailing, Topper and LaserPerformance.
Many clubs and centres have successfully teamed up with, or ‘adopted’ a local school or youth centre for their OnBoard programme, swelling participant numbers and helping to forge new relationships in their local community.
The RYA team can assist you with this. We are also launching a new national communications campaign, targeting parents, teachers and schools, with the aim of creating more demand for sailing and windsurfing.
To participate in the OnBoard programme you must be a recognised RYA dinghy or windsurfing Training Centre. Gaining OnBoard approval is a simple process that will involve no more than a few hours of your time. Once approved, you choose the specific times to deliver OnBoard sessions, with most clubs and centres running activities between April and October, in the evenings, at weekends and during the holidays.
To download an application form please see the Application Process tab. To see how existing clubs and centres have benefited from OnBoard please see our case studies page.
