This National RYA Initiative helps to generate awareness and pubilcity around opportunities to Try Sailing and Windsurfing - is your club/centre involved?

Once again in 2019, the Try Sailing Initiative Push The Boat Out shall be held over the whole of the month of May. This enables clubs/centres to offer more variety in terms of opportunities to get active on the water and coordinate alongside other events.

Looking for a way to be more active, spend time with family and enjoy the great outdoors? Have you ever considered what might be possible on-the-water? And it’s probably closer to home than you think! The RYA’s Push the Boat Out campaign is returning this summer to offer you the chance to try sailing or windsurfing for little or no cost. No experience necessary!

What is Push the Boat Out?

Push the Boat Out is a series of open days offering free or low cost ‘Try Sailing’ opportunities around the UK. More than 350 RYA affiliated clubs and training centres with over 40 across Scotland will be opening their doors to the local community to try sailing.

The Push the Boat Out event map will shortly be available with details of events happening near you.

What can I expect from an open day event?

Push the Boat Out is aimed at anyone interested in getting into a boat and out on the water. With no experience or equipment necessary, events are aimed at complete beginners, as well as more experienced sailors looking for a way back into the sport or interested in finding out more about their local club. Families, children, partners, individuals, groups of friends – everyone is welcome.

Once you have seen an event you would like to attend we would recommend that you contact the venue and express your interest. The venue will then be able to give you the details and format of their event.

What do I need to bring?

All kit and safety equipment is provided, all you need is; some clothes you don't mind getting wet (ideally not jeans), a change of clothes (to wear after your on-the-water activity) and a towel.

Some venues are also organising for tea, cake and barbeques to be available on the day.

How much will it cost?

All activities are free or low cost. Some venues will ask for donations or a small, nominal fee, however the majority of events are running free of charge for visitors.

We really look forward to welcoming you to the many club events happening across Scotland.
