Following a run of three years the RYA Scotland Team15 Youth Wave Camp running at the Tiree Wave Classic has become the BWA ‘Future Pros’ Youth Wave Camp in Association with ‘The Mailing Room’ as part of a UK wide series of Wave Camps aimed at Youth Windsurfing.

The British Wavesailing Association had been watching the development of the program carefully. Following on from the 3 year support of RYA Scotland to develop the youth initiative the BWA went to their primary sponsor, The Mailing Room to request assistance for 2018, the expanded BWA ‘Future Pros’ Youth Wave Camp series was born.

This new concept, provides training for budding youth wavesailors, not just at the Tiree Event but at all of the Events on the BWA Calendar throughout 2018, with Willie Maclean taking on the mantle of ‘BWA Youth Co-ordinator’.

Four training camps were planned in 2018, the first two have been recently completed successfully in Rhosneigr in early May and Avon Beach in Dorset in September, with future training camps including Tiree and Cornwall at the end of October.

Robin Nicol, Regional Development Officer, RYA Scotland who helped to develop the programme through his initial role as RYA instructor and coach said. “It has been a privilege to work on this project for the last decade, RYA Scotland are really pleased to have help in developing the camp in the last few years, working with all the partners on the project has been a joy and I am really excited to see some of the exciting visions they have in store for the future.”

Coaching and the development of windsurfing continues across Scotland through the Team 15 clubs which allow access to some great fun sessions aimed for the beginner through to racing. More details of the Team 15 Initiative can be found here.
