The end of the year is fast approaching and most people are getting ready for the holiday season. However there is still loads going on during the off-season and so here’s a round-up of some of the key areas of work from throughout the RYA Scotland team – we hope to see you soon!

RYA Scotland Annual Awards 

The short list for our Annual Awards has been announced – well done to all the nominees and thank you to everyone who nominated! The standard is once again very high across the board and there’s full details of all the awards in our news section - RYA Scotland Annual Awards 

The RYA Scotland Clubs that have been shortlisted for this year are:

  • Royal Northern & Clyde Yacht Club
  • Solway Yacht Club and
  • East Lothian Yacht Club

A number of volunteers, officials and instructors have also been shortlisted along with recognition of performances during 2018.

In a slightly separate award process, East Lothian Yacht Club has been recognised in the RYA Club of the Year. It is an open voting process and 11 clubs from across the UK have been selected. Voting closes 29 January and you can find out more information as well as cast your vote here

RYA Scotland Development Conference – Sunday 24 February 2019

Plans are well underway for the RYA Development Conference on Sunday 24 February 2019 at the Double Tree by Hilton Glasgow Westerwood Hotel. The booking for the event goes live on Wednesday 12 December 2018 – further details are available here

As always, the event will be open to all Training Centres, Clubs and boating organisations.

RYA Scotland Instructors Gathering – Saturday 23 February 2019

The 2019 Instructor Gathering is taking place at Double-Tree by Hilton on 23 February 2019. This year’s programme is looking very exciting and further information can be found here!

Well done to Largs SC Sailor Ben McDiarmid

A young sailor from Largs Sailing Club has been awarded a Laser 4.7 due to his commitment and enthusiasm around sailing. The support initiative is a partnership between the RYA OnBoard programme and the John Merricks Sailing Trust and the full story can be found here JMST Boat for Largs Sailor

Push The Boat Out 2019

Once again the RYA shall be running this initiative over the full month of May. Over 2800 people got on the water in the 48 clubs and centres in Scotland.

We are looking for clubs and centres who are interested in joining in this National initiative and you can sign up here
