RYA Training Chart Plotter
The RYA training plotter is for students on our shorebased navigation courses. It gives an introduction to the use of electronic chart plotters and practice opportunities for using different charts, creating routes etc.
Access to the Training Chart Plotter is provided to students on the following RYA shorebased courses: Essential Navigation and Seamanship, Day Skipper and Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore. The plotter is available for installation on PCs and Macs.
Install the plotter on your PC
Go to the RYA Plotter Download page and select 'Download for Windows'. You will then be guided through installing the 'RYASetup' file. When asked whether you want to allow this programme or app to make changes to your computer, select 'Yes'. When the install wizard has finished, you should see the RYA Training Chart Plotter on your desktop. Double click to open and activate it and set your password.
You should now automatically remain logged in to the plotter on that computer.
Install the plotter on your Mac
Go to the RYA Plotter Download page and select 'Download for MacOS'.
'RYA_3_1_342.dmg' should then be downloaded to your Downloads folder (or wherever your Mac usually downloads files to). Find that .dmg file and double click to open it. This will open a new window containing the chart plotter, the icon for which is the RYA logo.
Drag the training plotter app (RYA logo) from the window into your
Applications folder. Go to your Applications folder in 'Finder' and
locate the training plotter app (RYA logo). The first time you open it,
hold down the 'ctrl' button and click once on the logo, then select
'open'. If you are asked to confirm opening the app, select 'open'
again. The first time the app opens it may take quite some time. When it
has been opened once it can then subsequently be opened from Launch Pad, the Dock or the
Applications folder in the usual way.

Once you have watched the tutorial on using overlays, you will be ready to import the overlays below. The first overlay below is a demonstration which you can use to get used to the process, followed by two overlays for the Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster course.
How to import an overlay file into your RYA training chart plotter:

Open the RYA Training Chart Plotter and open the
overlay window by going to the Show menu and clicking 'Overlays' (see
help videos above).
Right click on the Overlays folder where you want the file to be imported.
Click 'Import here' and then navigate to the file you saved in step 1.
