Save the date: 30-31 January 2021
In light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the 2021 annual conferences will be hosted as one joint virtual event: the RYA Raymarine Training Conference supported by Gallagher.
The FREE online conference will be hosted over the weekend of 30-31 January 2021 and will be open to instructors across the powerboat, personal watercraft, inland waterways and sail and motor cruising schemes, as well as senior instructors, coaches, trainers and training centre principals across all the RYA training schemes.
Bookings are now closed.
Missed out? Don't worry, we will be sharing a selection of resources and recordings of the key sessions on the Training Support Site in the coming weeks. Watch this space...
“The conferences are always a brilliant opportunity for delegates to get actively involved in sessions led by experts, and the 2021 conference will be no different,” explains Richard Falk, RYA Director of Training and Qualifications.
“It’s been an incredibly challenging year for the industry and we know that all of our centres and instructors have felt the impact of the pandemic. We hope that the conference will be an opportunity to get together, share ideas and that the innovative new format will enable our network of instructors, appointment holders and training centre principals to get involved wherever they are.”
What to expect
Delegates can expect the usual scheme updates from the RYA Chief Instructors and broader advice from the RYA team. There will also be opportunities for continuing professional development (CPD) and expert-led workshops.

RYA knowledge and advice
As well as important updates from the RYA Training team, this year we will also be joined by Sarah Treseder, RYA Chief Executive for a look at what’s new at the RYA and the impact of 2020 as we look to the future. And Howard Pridding, RYA Director of External Affairs will be providing an update on what we know so far about the impact of Brexit and COVID-19 on RYA recognised training centres and instructors.
Highlights include guest speakers; Liz Rushall and Alan Olive.
Director of Rushall Marketing and author of the British Marine Futures Report, Liz will give a brief insight to current participation and consumer trends, as well as implications for the training sector in her talk: Training - what does the future hold?
Whilst Alan Olive, former RYA Coach Development Manager and leading consultant for elite sport and businesses will be returning for a second year and another thought-provoking session. Alan will explore how we can achieve our human need for connection, build working partnerships and engage our teams - even in lockdown - in his talk: Developing teams in lockdown.
We are excited to also be joined by Hayley Jarvis from mental health charity Mind, Captain Andrew Moll from the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) and Dr Ivan Haigh from the University of Southampton.
As always, the workshops will cover a range of different subjects with something for both those involved with running a busy commercial training centre or managing a team of volunteer instructors at a club or charity, to the instructors delivering RYA training all over the world.

- RS Sailing
- Whaly Boat
- Personal Watercraft Partnership (PWP)
- Royal Institute of Navigation (RIN)
- Ocean Safety
- Marlow Ropes
There will also be a meeting hub for delegates to network, share ideas and connect with friends and colleagues.
The innovative new format will enable delegates to attend the conference from anywhere in the world.
Featuring a combination of live and pre-recorded sessions, a number of the presentations and workshops will be available on demand throughout the weekend, so that they can be viewed at your convenience, no matter what time zone you’re in.
The platform will remain open for one month after the conference so that delegates will be able to log in and access recordings of all the sessions at their convenience.
If you were unable to attend, a selection resources and recordings of the key sessions will be made available on the Training Support Site in the coming weeks.
Our thanks go to long-standing sponsors Raymarine and Gallagher for their continued outstanding support.
COVID-19 update: Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the RYA is continuing to review all events. The online RYA Raymarine Training Conference supported by Gallagher will replace the RYA Raymarine Yachtmaster Scheme Instructor Conference and RYA Training Conference supported by Gallagher for 2021. There will be no physical RYA Training conferences in 2021.
