RYA knowledge series 2023

The online RYA Knowledge Series aims to give students, clubs and coaches an opportunity to learn more about Coaching, team racing, keelboat sailing and match racing.

The RYA is running 6 weekly sessions every Tuesday from 19 Sept - 24 Oct at 7pm.

The 2023 sessions will be on the following

Week 1 (19/09): Top Tips for Coaching Racing - Ed Sibson & Nic Wymer

This session looks to support participating coaches with best practices for coaching and organising racing. Ed and Nic will explore resources, activity design and coaching models that can be used to help sailors enjoy developing their racing skills. They will also touch upon the available CPD opportunities for coaches in the year ahead and allow an opportunity to ask any coaching-related questions.

Week 2 (26/09): Keelboat sailing – Mason King & TBC

Discussing the opportunities available to step into keelboat sailing in the UK. Including pay and play sailing. British Keelboat Academy, British Keelboat League, Match Racing, 2K team Racing, JOG etc.

Week 3 (3/10): Coaching team racing - Ed Sibson & Nic Wymer

This session aims to broaden a coach's knowledge and understanding of coaching more advanced team racing skills. It is an opportunity to engage and network with other coaches through discussions on more advanced skills, tactics, and strategies in relation to team racing.

Week 4 (10/10): Event planning session 1 – Emily Robertson & Jessica Beecher

A simple guide to running an event and all things logistical. Covering basic planning, checklists, budgeting etc. (focusing on Team racing events).

Week 5 (17/10): Boat Repairs & Towing – Keith Sammons

Firefly expert Keith Sammons of kSail talks us through maintaining your own fleet, saving costs, repairing damage and how to prevent issues. We will also cover some of the basic trailer checks and towing tips.

Week 6 (24/10): Event planning session 2: Roles and responsibilities – James Chapman and Jacqui Roberts

Looking at the different roles needed for an event and their responsibilities. How to source officials and looking after your volunteers etc. (Including types of officials, how to get qualified, how to find officials and the volunteer survey, Race officials academy)

Please register by 5pm on the day. You will be sent the Zoom link on the day of the sessions selected.

For any attendee under the age of 16, please complete the parental consent form. (Sessions will be recorded).
