Description:

The RYA Regional Judge course is focused on equipping attendees with the knowledge and skills on rules and hearings needed to support their local and regional events. It is the first qualification rung on the ladder to International Judge. 

Attendees will take part in mock hearings, and develop the skills to chair hearings and write decisions, to focus on the key rules that determine the decision, and to ask questions of sailors and their witnesses. 

Attendees will need to have a good grasp of Part 2 & 5 of the Racing Rules of Sailing, and how they apply to common racing incidents. Experience of attending protest hearings (as a sailor or a judge) will be an advantage, but it is not essential. Attendance on the course meets one requirement for appointment as an RYA Regional Judge.
