Description

This is the course to take to develop your skills from an RYA Dinghy Instructor to RYA Senior Instructor.  

The 4-day course will cover: the role of a Senior Instructor, preparation and delivery of sessions, course and centre management, powerboat handling in a teaching environment and the RYA Sailing Schemes. 

You will be assessed on a continual basis including running water-based simulated group management sessions. 

Candidates must first be an RYA Dinghy Instructor and must fulfil the following criteria prior to the course:  

• Minimum age of 18 
• Valid First Aid certificate 
• RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate 
• Dinghy Instructor certificate 
• Safety boat certificate 
• RYA Safe and Fun safeguarding certificate (within 12 months of the course) or a previous course that has been taken in the last three years. 
• Recommendation from the RYA Chief Instructor, or principal, RYA Regional Development Officer/Regional Trainer, or RYA appointed Trainer. 
• Completed Senior Instructor workbook (this will be sent to you ahead of the course). 
• Sailing ability to at least RYA pre-entry standard
