A discussion session primarily for experienced race officials; newly qualified welcome! For many, the best place to improve skills is at events, so JUC is introducing ‘CPD at events’ and enabling these activities to count towards re-appointment. Event CPD could be group discussions ashore, or 1:1 coaching afloat in, say, rule 42. This discussion session will aim to identify simple and high value event-based CPD activities, how to integrate them into the event schedule, and the role of senior race officials in facilitating them.
16:00 - 17:15 - Presenters | Alan Olive followed by Nick Scott
In competitive environments, interactions between race officials, competitors, and their support persons often take place under intense pressure, particularly where stakes are high such as qualification or selection. These interactions, if not managed properly, can lead to conflicts, misunderstandings, and even compromise the integrity of the event. This session aims to address the dynamics at play during these critical exchanges, focusing on effective communication, conflict resolution, and the roles and responsibilities of each party.
The Emeritus award is being presented to four outstanding Race Officials who have made a significant contribution to the sport through their officiating over many years.
