Benfleet Yacht Club celebrates its 100th Anniversary

In the RYA East Region, there are a number of clubs with a strong heritage, and in recent times have celebrated big anniversaries. One such Club is Benfleet Yacht Club, who celebrated their centenary late last year. Formed in 1922, the Club is situated along the shore of Benfleet Creek, on the northern coast of Canvey Island, Essex.

Today, it is active in terms of dinghy and cruiser sailing, with an active coastal rowing section. Dinghy sailing and coastal rowing mainly take place in the sheltered waters of Benfleet Creek, whilst for yacht cruising, the creek provides a gateway to the Thames Estuary and beyond.

At a special ceremony, Doug MacEwen, Chair of the RYA East Committee presented an RYA East certificate of recognition to celebrate 100 years of Benfleet Yacht Club. Also pictured is John Hancock, Commodore of Benfleet Yacht Club and Charles Anderson, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Essex, who gave the main speech of congratulations.
