Entries are now open for a brand-new event – the RYA Junior Club Championships – created to celebrate the energy, skill and spirit of junior club racing across the UK.
Taking place from 4-5 October 2025 at Northampton Sailing Club, this year’s pilot event aims to bring together young sailors from clubs across the RYA regions and Home Countries for a fun, competitive, and highly sociable weekend of racing.
The Junior Club Championships is a team-based competition that allows clubs to showcase their junior talent while encouraging participation and camaraderie.
It’s all about team pride, club representation and great racing.
This event is aimed at confident club-level junior sailors, aged under 16 on 1 September 2025, who are actively participating in their local racing scenes – typically those progressing beyond Learn to Race and gaining experience in club competitions. It’s not intended for sailors already competing regularly on the national class circuits.
Club are invited to now apply for an invitation for their team, to be made up of six sailors – two single-handers (racing in Toppers) and two double-handed crews (racing in RS Fevas). Teams must include at least two boys and two girls.
Sailors will race individually, but their results are combined to determine an overall team score – with the winning club crowned RYA Junior Club Champions 2025.
A maximum of 20 club teams can take part, with invitations extended to:
In future years, qualification will take place via regional inter-club events, but for this pilot year, entries are being accepted on a first come, first served basis within regional/Home Country quotas – so get in quick!
The Notice of Race is now live on the RYA Racing Events website, which includes full details on the event and how submit a request for an invitation for your team to compete. You don’t need to submit details of your sailors at this point.
Requests for invitations will be accepted until Monday 21 July, and the RYA will issue invitations during w/c 28 July.
Competing clubs will then have until Monday 11 August to accept their invitation, including payment of entry fees and confirmation of sailor details.
Competing clubs will need to provide one Topper (5.3 rig) and one RS Feva (XL rig) for the event, but the RYA may be able to help connect teams needing boats with clubs that can assist.
This is a brilliant opportunity for young sailors to race for club pride, make new friends, and test their skills in exciting short-course formats.
