The RYA is excited to unveil a brand-new event for 2025 – the RYA Junior Club Championships – created to celebrate the energy, skill and spirit of junior club racing across the UK.

A pilot event for 2025 taking place from 4-5 October at Northampton Sailing Club, it aims to bring together young sailors from clubs across the RYA regions and Home Countries for a fun, competitive, and highly sociable weekend of racing.

The Junior Club Championships is a team-based competition that allows clubs to showcase their junior talent while encouraging participation and camaraderie.

It’s all about team pride, club representation and a great racing experience.

How will it work?

This event is aimed at confident club-level junior sailors who are actively participating in their local racing scenes, typically those who have progressed beyond Learn to Race and are developing experience in club competitions. It’s not intended for sailors who are regularly competing on the national class circuits.

Each club is invited to enter a team of six junior sailors – two single-handed sailors (racing in Toppers) and two double-handed crews (racing in RS Fevas). Teams must include a minimum of two boys and two girls.

Sailors will race individually, but their results will be combined to determine an overall team score – and the winning club will take home the title of RYA Junior Club Champions 2025.

A total of 20 club teams can take part, with two teams permitted per RYA region (North West, North East, Midlands, East, London & South East, South and South West) and two each from Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

In future years, the intention is for teams to qualify via regional inter-club events, but for this pilot year, entries will be accepted on a first come, first served basis within the regional/Home Country quotas – so timing is critical!

Competing clubs will be asked to provide one Topper (5.3 rig) and one RS Feva (XL rig) for their sailors to use at the event, but if needed the RYA may be able to assist by connecting clubs who need boats with clubs who have some available for charter.

Don’t miss out!

This is a brilliant opportunity for your young sailors to race for club pride, make new friends, and test their skills in exciting short race formats.

The Notice of Race will be published on the RYA Racing Events website in the week commencing 30 June 2025 with all the details on how to apply for an entry.
