The hub of this effort is Project #SailFromHome and it has a dedicated page. We are producing weekly internet content with themes to address a wide range of boaters:
For youngsters, we combine worksheets and YouTube videos on Wednesday mornings under the tag #SailSmarts to interest members of OnBoard clubs and help their parents to deliver home schooling on topics like weather and tides. On Thursdays young sailors can master ropework with #KnotOnTheWater.
There's lots for racers of all ages in yachts as well as dinghies in the programme. About a thousand people across the globe tuned in to the first of six weekly webinars on the Rules of Racing. You can catch up on YouTube. Checkout the RYA Channel.
Our popular off-season club workshops are transforming into online interactive Club Development Forums. These run throughout May, the first three weeks will focus on the following topics:
Alongside these sessions we will also be running a skills improvement session each week, in May topics include:
There is also a special RYA YouTube Channel for the Club Zoneand it has items about promotion on Mondays, club development on Thursdays and financial matters on Fridays, all at 4pm.
We would love to hear what experiences clubs are having during lockdown such as any funding they have received, how they're keeping members engaged and what challenges they face.
Any clubs wanting a 1:1 online meeting with me, please email me.
I'm one of a small team leading the Virtual Regatta project in the RYA. It involves over 400 clubs UK wide. I am producing weekly videos which go out at 11am every Saturday along with a whole host of other events. All information is online
Any VR questions to eSailing@rya.org.uk (monitored by myself and Celia Edgington).
Over 235 clubs have signed up, including 25 NW clubs, each producing a club champion. Qualifying for the NW contest is on 16 May at 11am and 1pm with the top 19 going through to the Regional Final on 23 May at 11am. The winner of the regional final will go through to a live national final on Saturday 30 May.
The RYA is offering advice and guidanceto both Affiliated Clubs and Recognised Training Centres to help with emergency financial planning. There is financial planning advice for clubs as well as a Covid-19 Financial Toolkit.
The RYA is also asking clubs and training centres to complete a surveydesigned to help venues to work through some of the help and support currently available. This information will also help the RYA to target the most needed support and guidance and effectively influence major stakeholders including the UK Government.
Finally, the British Youth Sailing Regional Club Championships is still planned to take place on the water during the last weekend of September so save the date!
