A Royal Visitor for Snettisham Beach Sailing Club

Snettisham Beach Sailing Club, on the North West Norfolk Coast, received a Royal visitor last week when HRH The Princess Royal joined members and sailors on Monday 12 July, along with the Royal Yachting Association’s CEO Sarah Treseder OBE.

The aim of the visit was to celebrate recent developments at the club; this included naming the new race control boat “Avocet” – chosen to reflect the bird life abundant at the Beach, and the club’s support for the RSPB’s work there; and to officially open the club’s bungalow, which has been completely renovated in the last year and converted into a bright modern holiday home for let and available to accommodate the needs of the club’s disabled sailors and instructors. It represents a £60,000 investment of the club’s funds and the letting income will be used to fund club sailing development.

Club members and guests from ages 8 to 80 enjoyed tea and chatting with HRH The Princess Royal. Club Commodore Adrian Tebbutt commented: “It was lovely to speak to HRH The Princess Royal about sailing and the numbers of girls who are taking part with us. We also spoke about how much sailing we can do at a location where we are so dependent on our tides.”

Building on the success of the club’s youth and women’s sailing programmes, the club is looking forward to a busy summer on the water.
