A successful Discover Sailing Day at Ouse Amateur Sailing Club

Despite the less than favourable forecast (which included thunderstorms and flooding), Ouse Amateur Sailing Club enjoyed a good afternoon on the water on Sunday 26 May.

Although it rained most of the morning, by the time the club welcomed visitors in the afternoon, the rain had largely dried up, and it was a sunny afternoon. The club enjoyed taking out a number of visitors on the water, and also showed their families around the site. A variety of boats were on the water, as well as paddleboards and a Canadian canoe.

If you still would like to try sailing this summer, there are more opportunities through the Discover Sailing programme https://www.rya.org.uk/start-boating/discover-sailing and you can find out more about Ouse Amateur Sailing Club here https://www.oasc.co.uk/

Robbie Bell, Regional Manager for the East, said: “The varied waterways of the East, from the coast to rivers, lakes and Broads, mean that there is something for everyone. Over the last few years we have seen the benefits for both physical and mental health that being active and outside in the fresh air can bring, and getting on the water is a great way to do this. Sailing is also very social and a brilliant way to meet new people whilst learning a new skill”

Sailing really is for all ages and abilities who will enjoy the thrill of learning a new skill, meeting new friends, and getting out in the fresh air. By joining a sailing club, you can give back to that community through volunteering and helping to run the club. So what are you waiting for? Give sailing a go this summer.
