As we look forward to an exciting season ahead, RYA Northern Ireland is excited to announce the launch of our Active Clubs Grants scheme.

This scheme offers small grant opportunities for clubs aiming to grow and retain their membership, specifically aiming for active membership through a variety of programmes at their clubs.

We understand some of the most common challenges within our sport are lack of funding, diversity of participants, and participation retention.

Our aim is to assist clubs in overcoming challenges and the RYANI strategy, Navigating The Future, aims to open the pathways for people to try our sport from grass root level participation and to help them develop through their chosen pathways.

Without affiliated clubs this could not happen, and the Active Clubs Programme specifically supports clubs with club development and participation opportunities.

We believe that opportunities like Women on Water, Sailability, OnBoard and crewing programmes open doors for non-sailors/former sailors and sailors to try our sport and fall in love with it (again).

When allocating funding, priority will be given to clubs who are running programmes targeting:

- Women and Girls

- People with a disability

- Youth sailing and boating

- Rural communities

Following the announcement of the Active Clubs Grants scheme, Active Clubs Coordinator Lisa McCaffrey said: “The Active Clubs grants should encourage clubs to look at their membership make-up, what their club vision is and how can the grant support their clubs development plan.

“Whether it is to increase female membership, to get their female members active with a Women on Water programme or to develop a Sailability programme within their club, the Active Clubs grant is flexible to be able to work with different clubs’ goals.”

You can apply for an Active Clubs grant here.

The grants are only a small portion of the support we offer. Chatting with Active Clubs Coordinator Lisa McCaffrey about future opportunities such as the benefit of club development plans and creating an active club for all is key in creating a sustainable future for your club.

If you are unsure if this grant is for you give Lisa a call to discuss potential participation opportunities on 07788238083 or email lisa.mccaffrey@rya.org.uk
