Aera YTC partnership

Aera, the contemporary independent British watchmaker, has officially become the timing partner of YTC (Yacht Time Correction).

Aera YTC, powered by the RORC Rating Office and the RYA (YTC for short), has been pivotal in encouraging boat owners across the UK to engage in racing at clubs and regattas. The system’s success lies in its accessibility and ability to facilitate competitive racing for a wide variety of yachts, in turn, making entry-level racing easier for clubs to run.

Launched in February 2023, YTC is free system that includes an easy-to-use online portal and a recently launched YTC Pursuit Race Calculator.  Using simple data around key boat measurements such as boat weight to hull length, it calculates a rating so that skippers of any skill level can feel encouraged to race their boats in club events and port regattas.  The online portal also includes a library of hull measurement data for over 500 production boats to help owners easily apply for their certificate.

The YTC tool has already seen around 1,400 boats and 120 clubs registering with YTC during the 2024 season.

Aera YTC

Aera was founded in 2018 by industry veterans Jas Minhas and Olof Larsson. It set out to create timepieces that combine rugged functionality with enduring design and their debut models, the D-1 Diver and P-1 Pilot, reflect this mission, offering durability, functionality, and legibility without unnecessary complications.

As RYA Keelboat Development Manager Richard Moxey states: “YTC is a fantastic tool for making racing more accessible, and we are proud to have Aera on board as our official timing partner. It's crucial that tools like YTC are available to ensure more people can participate in competitive races, and partnerships like this make that possible.”

Aera co-founders Jas Minhas and Olof Larsson discuss the partnership stating “At Aera, an important part of our brand ethos is the value of time and using it to the fullest. Physical and mental health through an active lifestyle is more important than ever, and so by making entry-level racing easier for clubs to run and more accessible for boat owners, YTC is something that we feel truly rewarded to partner with.”
