CALLING ALL CLUBS! Submit your Portsmouth Yardstick data

04 Dec 20

The RYA is appealing to clubs to submit their Portsmouth Yardstick data before the December 20 cut-off to ensure numbers are as accurate as possible for 2021.

The Portsmouth Yardstick handicap system is run jointly by the RYA and its affiliated clubs to allow sailors to race different boats against each other fairly.

At the end of each year, clubs submit their results data to the RYA which collates and analyses it then adjusts PY numbers accordingly. The more data received, the more accurate the PY numbers will be.

With the lack of club racing in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic it is vital the RYA receives as many returns as possible so that the most accurate numbers can be generated for next year.

Adam Parry, technical manager at the RYA, said: “The Portsmouth Yardstick handicap system underpins club racing throughout the UK, ensuring fair racing for all.

“Understandably there has been far less racing this year than normal due to the COVID-19 pandemic so it’s more important than ever before that clubs submit the data they do have to us.

“We are all hoping that club racing can return to some semblance of normality in 2021, and it’s crucial that as and when that happens it’s as fair as possible.”

The deadline for PY submissions is December 20. Club handicap and results officers can submit their data online at http://www.pyonline.org.uk/.
