Environmental ideas for London and South East clubs

Felpham Sailing Club own a triple stacker trailer. This is used by members joining together to visit open meetings etc. In normal times two or three people can share a car or van towing their boats on the one trailer. This has worked for Aeros. Solos, Lasers and others. Besides saving money, fuel and helping the environment it is also quite sociable! (Subject to Covid restrictions now of course).

Felpham has a number of children attending an open meetings sailing Teras, Toppers, Picos or Lasers, and hires a large van such as a Luton or a Sprinter. This can take five or six Teras or four Picos in one run. It is very quick to load and does not carry the burden of careful rope work to attach everything to a trailer. Old carpet and towels are used to avoid rubbing damage and the boats are tied down inside the load area to minimise movement. The is method is used to transport 30+ dinghies to the WSSYSA Regatta.

Racing dinghies supplied by venue: On occasion when WSSYSA has organised match racing or team racing events, it has made arrangements for a single class of dinghy to be made available at the venue, usually by hiring a local fleet. This arrangement has increased participation as there is less burden on competitors and parents. You can find out more about the RYA’s regional hire fleets here

Racing dinghies supplied on contract by Class Association/Manufacturer: RS Sailing actively support the Aero Class by making available up to six charter boats at many UK Open Meetings. Whereas this is an RS marketing initiative, it is also a way of taking part without having the burdens of taking a dinghy a long distance to a race venue.

Recycle Toppers that are lying unwanted and unloved in dinghy parks and put them into the hands of people who will use them.

Please do take a look at our regional environmental plan and the greenblue website and encourage your club or centre to participate.
