The RYA is ensuring that a sailing staycation is one of the best things you can enjoy this summer, with new adventures in every region of the UK. It has launched a series of dinghy trails designed to show you how to get the most out of your dinghy and enjoy a day on the water exploring some of our glorious countryside – and we have a brand-new trail in Plymouth Sound.

All of the trails have used local knowledge so that you can get the best out of your day on the water; the winner of the RYA’s Design a Dinghy Trail competition, launched at the Dinghy Show in February, was Peter Guilliatt from Plymouth. He said: "I was delighted my entry for the RYA Dinghy Trails competition was considered and even more so that it has been selected as the winner. I personally love sailing in and around Plymouth. It has large open spaces, but also plenty of places to explore in the rivers which drain into it. In fact, the River Tamar would be my next choice of trail. It meanders through the countryside, gets straighter past the naval dockyards until finally exiting into the sea. Hopefully this Plymouth Dinghy Trail will be useful to, and entice down, other people who wish to explore this glorious part of the UK." Peter’s winning trail has been created and is now available to download and explore.

For the less experienced, along with some easier trails, there is a range of courses that will upskill your knowledge and help you gain confidence. If you’re a more experienced dinghy sailer, you can challenge yourself with some of the longer trips.
