Now in its third successful year, the Scottish Fin and Foil Championships will once again set sail on the scenic waters of Loch Ryan, Stranraer, from 8 - 10 August, and will welcome back world-class competitors for a weekend of high-performance racing and training.

Firmly established on the UK wind sports calendar, the Championships bring together a wide range of disciplines including windsurfing, wing foiling, hydrofoil windsurfing, and raceboard competition. Attracting elite athletes and renowned coaches from across the UK and beyond, the event has become a highlight for board enthusiasts.

New for 2025, the Championships will also welcome the WASZP class - a fast, single-handed hydrofoil sailing dinghy - further broadening the appeal and variety of the regatta.

RYA Scotland is proud to continue support of this event, alongside the UK Windsurfing Association (UKWA). With the event explected to host between 80–100 competitors, it's sure to be a vibrant spectacle of colourful sails and boards across the waters of Loch Ryan.

This year’s event comes at a key moment in the international sailing calendar, nestled between the Youth IQFOIL World Championships in Brest and the Techno293 World Championships in Pwllheli, where many of Scotland’s young fin and foil sailors will also be competing. The Championships will feature daily races, visible from both the shore and on the water, allowing eveyone to soak up the atmosphere.

In addition to the racing, Scottish Fin and Foil will run community taster sessions throughout the weekend - with a special focus on encouraging local youngsters to get involved in the sport.

Speaking to BBC News Radio Dumfries and Galloway last year, Scottish Fin and Foil Chairperson Danny Hawthorn said:

“Loch Ryan is the perfect venue – it’s centrally located within the UK, accessible from Ireland, and offers reliable, consistent wind conditions.”

The event is proudly supported by the Stranraer Watersports Association, whose strong community ties and volunteer coordination are key to the event’s success. Around 50–60 volunteers will help ensure smooth operations on both land and water.

With its unique multi-class format, special location, and inclusive community engagement, the Scottish Fin and Foil Championships continue to grow as a flagship celebration of wind-powered sailing in the UK.
