With thanks to Liz from the club for this report:

The club welcomed visitors from Thornbury and Poole Sailing Clubs to take part in two days of dinghy racing.

The first event began Saturday afternoon. The conditions were challenging so the race took place within a mile from the clubhouse. 13 dinghies left the club accompanied by four safety boats.

Those watching enjoyed the fresh breeze, unaware that the wind was a lot stronger out on the water. With wind against tide it meant that the dinghies had to sail through high waves. However, this did not deter our fearless sailors as they crashed through the water intent on completing the complicated figure of eight course. Within no time they returned, soaked, laughing and full of stories.

Numerous cups of tea and hot showers later the club was ready for our social dinner. It was great to see the clubhouse so full and we were also able to celebrate one of our visitor’s 85th birthday. Gasps were audible as many of us were unaware of Tim’s age; he had been a forerunner in the afternoon’s race.

On Sunday the wind wasn’t quite as ferocious, however there was still a good breeze and 12 boats took to the water for two back to back races. This time in front of the clubhouse so those onshore were treated to the glorious sight of many dinghies whizzing across the Thames.

After an enjoyable afternoon tea the prizes were awarded. Third place Chris S on Crystal Dawn, second Richard T on Haze Daze and our overall winner was Tim P on Avocet.

The club thoroughly enjoyed hosting and socialising with our many guests and members throughout our Regatta weekend and we look forward to next August with anticipation.
