Joanna Grierson from Poole, Dorset and Alex Anderson from Winchester, Hampshire have claimed the final two spots in the 2020 ilovesailing calendar competition to complete the 2021 calendar line-up.

A total of 160 entries were received in the 2020 calendar competition, with two winners being picked each month between March and July, with our final two winners being picked from all the entries received during the period, giving all entrants two chances of winning.

Commenting on her winning photo entitled, ‘Early morning sunrise, a time for reflection!’ Joanna, a regular entrant in the competition and winner on many previous occasions, said: “What a lovely surprise! I am really delighted that my early morning photograph has been selected for the 2021 Calendar. I always look at and admire all other entries, especially the full action photos, but it still surprises me when you choose one of my more tranquil photos! Thank you again.

“This photograph was taken in late August 2019 from the pontoon on the River Vilaine in Southern Brittany where we berth our cruising yacht. I was actually up early hoping to see a kingfisher and could not resist recording this spectacular sunrise.”

While Alex, our second August winner, commented on his winning shot entitled ‘Serene sailing aerial top down off Dartmouth’: “I’m over the moon to have been selected for the calendar as a winner and most importantly win one of the awesome ilovesailing ducks! The photo was taken just outside Dartmouth, while flying the drone from a yacht for a client.”

Joanna and Alex will receive a prize package consisting of:

  • A spot on the 2021 ilovesailing calendar
  • Copy of the final printed calendar
  • Canvas print of their winning photo
  • An RYA goody bag
  • And of course…. the ilovesailing rubber duck

Unfortunately with no Southampton Boat Show this year there will be no prize giving, however Joanna and Alex can choose to receive either two tickets to the RYA Dinghy Show in Farnborough in February or two tickets to the 2021 Southampton Boat Show.

“Our final two winners complete what is a stunning line up of photos for the 2021 calendar”, commented Emma Slater, ilovesailing co-ordinator. “Now in its 8th year the calendar competition really goes to show the diversity and beauty of sailing and it is always a delight to see the images sent in each month.

“My thanks to everyone who took part throughout the year, we can’t do it without you. I for one am extremely excited to see all the winning entries in print on the 2021 calendar.”
