London and South East welcomes three new OnBoard providers

OnBoard, the RYA’s hugely successful grass roots programme which seeks to make sailing and windsurfing easier to access for 8-18 year olds, continues to be a hit in London and the South East. In recent months Herne Bay Sailing Club, Maidenhead Sailing Club, and Keep Sailing have joined the scheme.

OnBoard is the RYA's children's sailing and windsurfing programme. It offers children the opportunity to try watersports through their local club or centre in a safe, fun and structured environment.

Open to all children, OnBoard gets youngsters on the water for their first time. Whether you would like to learn how to sail or windsurf, there is no experience or equipment needed to get you started. The programme is also progressive, so you can work your way through the RYA Youth Schemes.

As well as getting fresh air and exercise, children's sailing and windsurfing offer a wide range of invaluable life skills, from problem solving to confidence and teamwork.

Herne Bay Sailing Club

As well as becoming an OnBoard provider Herne Bay Sailing Club  is a Royal Yachting Association Recognised Training Centre and offers RYA courses and training in dinghy sailing and power boating for adults. If you want to learn to sail or to drive a power boat, or simply want to improve your skills with some expert tuition, the club runs RYA courses throughout the season.

Membership includes free membership for children and grandchildren. The use of club boats, kayaks and paddleboards is also included at no extra cost.

Maidenhead Sailing Club

Maidenhead Sailing Club starts 2024 building on the success of its youth & junior programme to become a RYA OnBoard venue. If you would like to go OnBoard at Maidenhead, just contact Gail

Keep Sailing

In addition to OnBoard Keep Sailing, which operates at various locations in our region, delivers courses in sailing, power-boating, stand-up-paddle-boarding and much, much more. All courses are delivered by qualified instructors in a professional and safe environment. They pick the best locations and activities and bring them to you.

From the RYA

Hannah Cockle, RYA OnBoard Operations Officer, comments; “It’s great to welcome these clubs to the OnBoard programme. Getting out on the water has a huge amount of benefits, no matter what your age, background or ability. We look forward to working with them and their local communities in the future.”

Launched in 2005 OnBoard has helped introduce over 1,000,000 young people across the country to sailing and windsurfing. There are over 50 clubs and centres in London and the South East providing OnBoard activities.
