Menai Strait to be featured on ilovesailing calendar

Antony Robinson from Beaumaris, Anglesey has clinched a spot on the 2021 ilovesailing calendar.

Chosen from amongst 25 fantastic photos submitted in April, Antony’spicture entitled ‘Perfect evening at the RAYC on the Menai Strait’, went upagainst pictures from around the UK, ranging from stunning sunsets andspectacular scenery, to racing action and tranquil river scenes.

Taken on a Thursday night training session at the RAYC in Beaumariswhere Antony is the chief instructor, “it was perfect conditions and this wasthe last run before we went ashore. I took it on my iPhone and haven’t used anyfilters as the setting sun was just amazing peeking out from the back of thesail, lighting up some amazing cloud formations” commented Antony.

RYA Cymru Wales CEO Gerwyn Owen added “Wales has some of the mostpicturesque water ways in the UK, I’m delighted to see Antony’s picture featureon the calendar. I’d like to encourage all boaters in Wales to enter theirpictures in the competition, as well as tagging RYA Cymru Wales on social media– we love seeing your best memories on the water!”  

Speaking of the award Antony said “It hasn’t really sunk in yet, andthis will really keep the spirits up at the RAYC with all that is happening atthe moment with not knowing when we will get back on the water. Seeing thepicture in the 2021 calendar will be amazing and makes me realise that we dosail at a stunning location, and to hopefully enthuse people to get back outthere when we can”. 

 

As well as a place on the calendar Antony will also pick up a host ofother prizes including:

  • Two tickets to the Southampton International Boat Show for the official prize giving  
  • Afternoon tea at the Holiday Inn for them and three guests following the prize giving 
  • A Canvas print of their winning entry
  • A copy of the final printed calendar
  • A selection of RYA goodies
  • And this years ‘gold’ ilovesailing rubber duck    


The ilovesailing calendar competition, now in its 8th year, givesamateur and professional photographers the perfect place showcase their favouritesailing photos. From dinghy cruising to yacht racing, family days out toregattas, sunsets to sunrises, whatever kind of sailing you love or whereveryou love to do it, capture the moment on camera and you could win a spot on the2021 calendar.

Taking part is easy. All you have to do is post your favourite sailingphoto(s) on to the ilovesailing Facebook page www.facebook.com/ryailovesailing or email yourentry to emma.slater@rya.org.uk, it’s as simple as that. Winnerswill be notified via Facebook and/or email.

Entrants can supply multiple images and can enter in more than onemonth. All images need to be high resolution and in landscape in order to fiton the calendar. By submitting a photograph, entrants agree that their imagesmay be used for marketing and promotional purposes. If selected, entrants willbe asked to confirm they have permission to share the photo from anyindividuals visible in the photograph. Two winners will be picked each month between March and July torepresent a different month on the 2021 calendar, with the final two spotsbeing selected in August from all the other entries made between March andJuly.

The 2021 calendars will go on sale at the 2020 Southampton InternationalBoat Show, where the first 50 people to purchase a copy will also receive aFREE 2020 gold ilovesailing rubber duck.
