Lots of junior and youth sailors on the water with colourful sails for a NE & Yorkshire Youth Traveller Series event.

The North East & Yorkshire Youth Sailing Traveller Series is back for 2024!

Entries are now open with a fantastic line-up of inland and coastal venues providing racing for youth and junior sailors of all ages and abilities.

Organised by North East & Yorkshire Youth Sailing Association, the dates for 2024 kick off on Saturday 20 April at West Riding Sailing Club.

In response to feedback, the series is changing to reflect the academic school year and will now run from September to July.

To manage the transition, last September’s events are ‘double headers’ counting for 2023 and 2024, and the 2024 results so far can be found here.

Also new for this year, the series is heading east to Hornsea Mere SC near Hull, and will be joining up with the North West Junior Traveller Series for two events.

NWJTS sailors are invited to the NEYYTS event at Filey SC, while NE sailors will be heading to Bassenthwaite SC for a weekend, bringing sailors together from both sides of the Pennines.

The 40th Anniversary NEYYTS Series in 2023 had more than 120 participants with 387 entries between them and organisers are looking forward to another bumper year.

Series coordinator Fiona Spence said: “We’re getting set for another fantastic season with an updated schedule to reflect the school year and exciting new opportunities for young sailors to develop their skills.

“As ever the series will provide competitive racing for the region’s top sailors while supporting those who are less experienced or travelling for the first time.

“We also can't wait to introduce the NW sailors to the joy of sailing on the sea and in turn, we are very much looking forward to enjoying two days of racing at Bassenthwaite.  We hope this will become a regular partnership to increase friendship and sailing competition across the region.

“Additionally we have some other exciting events we are participating in this year as a regional team. We’ve got teams at the NSSA team racing at Banbury (9-10 March), we’re going to the NSSA Youth Regatta at Bassenthwaite in July and of course we will be running our third regional team racing champs at Ripon SC in September. All youth and junior sailors in the region are welcome to participate in any of these events with us as well as the youth traveller series.

“A massive thank you to all of the clubs and volunteers who are supporting the series and in advance to the parents who make it possible for their young sailors to join in. Please do take a look at our online NEYYTS hub, get in touch if we can help further, and take part!”
