RYA Cymru Wales is inviting people to share their views on a draft five-year strategy to help shape the future of our sport.

The proposed plan was launched at The Big Weekend for clubs, centres and instructors in October and remains out for public consultation until midnight on Tuesday 12 December 2023.

People are invited to read the RYA Cymru Wales Draft Strategy 2024-2029 and submit comments via the feedback form.

Core values

The strategy was drawn up using a variety of information including data analysis, workshops and in partnership with those involved in our sport/s across Wales.

The feedback survey invites people to share their interests in getting afloat and comment on all aspects of the proposed five-year strategy, including its ethos ‘Croeso’ – a platform for growth which enables a welcoming and safe sport for all – and the suggested core values of:

  • Adventurous and brave
  • Relevant and connected
  • Inclusive and safe

The strategy also sets out a Strategic Framework (Get on the water, Stay on the Water, Give Back), and a Performance Framework (Compete, Excel, Give Back), and examines how we measure success.

Together on our waters

RYA Cymru Wales CEO James Stuart said: “We have set out a vision for the future in our draft five-year strategy but now need your help to ensure it is as effective as possible.

“We are keen to understand your views from different communities across our sport/s to help us improve the strategy ahead of its publication in the New Year – please do take a look and fill out the feedback form as we really do want to know what you think!”

The draft strategy highlights how the sports represented by RYA Cymru Wales allow people to explore and enjoy special places and aims to unlock the potential for more people from more diverse backgrounds to get on the water more often.

Final consultation

James added: “It’s an important moment in time as we look ahead to the next five years and how we create a connected, inspired and inclusive Welsh sailing and boating community – please join us on this journey by helping us to create the right environment with our strategy.

“The feedback form is anonymous and it’s been pleasing to see responses coming in over the last month or so. We are now in the final stages of the public consultation. Whether you are involved in running a club or centre or activities afloat, a volunteer or a participant – boating, boarding or swimming – please don’t miss this opportunity to have your say.”
