RYA Midlands launches photography competition for clubs and centres
A photography competition has been launched by RYA Midlands to provide a showcase for Affiliated Clubs and Training Centres across the region.
Clubs and their members, boaters and keen amateur photographers, are being invited to look back through their pictures and send in their favourite images of their club, centre or best-loved location for getting afloat in the RYA Midlands region.
The competition will run throughout February with the aim of celebrating the region’s boating network and raising awareness about what the sport has to offer heading into the new season, as clubs and centres look to inspire their current members and customers, and attract new ones following the challenging months of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Would-be entrants are invited to go through their albums and archives for images taken before the current lockdown, or to submit photographs they might have taken of their club or centre in passing, within the current Covid-19 guidelines, whilst out for exercise.
All entries for the RYA Midlands ‘Photo February’ competition will be shared on @RYAMidlands social media channels, and an overall winner will be selected by the Regional Volunteer Team.
The winning photographer will be awarded a Helly Hansen Scout Duffel kit bag and the venue featured in their entry will have a chance to be in the spotlight, with the publication of an online profile on the RYA Midlands website hub and a press release to share the news.
Ben Hodgson, Regional Development Officer for RYA Midlands, said: “We are hoping the competition will not only be great fun but also support our network by highlighting the fantastic facilities we have in the region and the opportunities to get afloat which they provide for their members and local communities.
“We have a small prize for the winner but the key aim is to enable you to put your club or centre in the limelight. You might have a beautiful landscape view of your club house and its water, or action shots of the sailing or social activities on shore from the last year or two. Whatever images you have which show your venue at its best, we’d love to see them!”
Steven Tinsley, Chair of the RYA Midlands Regional Volunteer Team, hopes the competition will provide an added boost for clubs and their members while doors remain closed during the current pandemic restrictions: “It’s a chance to look back through our photos and remember what we love about our clubs - and to look forward to what we hope will be a great season in 2021 when we are able to get back on the water.”
Taking part is easy!
All you have to do is submit your favourite photos of your club, centre or venue in the RYA Midlands region by messaging @RYAMidlands on Facebook or by emailing Regional Communicator Paula Irish here. Please include your name and contact details and the place where you took the photograph.
The closing date for entries is midnight on Sunday 28th February 2021 and the winner will be announced during the first week of March 2021.
Entrants can submit more than one image and by submitting a photograph, entrants agree that it may be used for marketing and promotional purposes. Entrants should either have, or seek the consent of, any individuals visible in the photograph. Full terms and conditions can be found here.
