#SailFromHome with the RYA and British Sailing Team

Whatever your boating passion, everyone can now #SailFromHome online with the RYA and the British Sailing Team!

Following the success of British Youth Sailing #SailFromHome YouTube webinars and tutorials for young racing sailors, #SailFromHome has now been extended so everyone can get their sailing fix while we can’t get out on the water.

Whether you’re looking for fun stuff to inspire the youngsters, advice on how to keep club members engaged or ways to put your own race tactics to the test, every day is an online sailing school day!

Gareth Brookes, the RYA’s Regional Development Officers (RDO) Manager, explains: “#SailFromHome is our online engagement programme for clubs, centres and participants of all ages. It continues to be an extremely unsettling and frustrating time for everybody who loves being on the water but through #SailFromHome we hope you can get the next best thing.”

 Here’s what’s on offer:

For junior and RYA OnBoard sailors, the #SailSmarts playlist is delivering entertaining lockdown content for kids. RS Sailing’s Jake Elsbury leads the weekly bitesize tutorials, with the fun and informative sessions so far including clouds, tides, navigation and buoyage. Look out for new videos every Wednesday and Thursday. Also keep an eye on the @RYAOnboard Instagram every Sunday as the weekly fun OnBoard Challenge is really capturing young imaginations!

If you are looking for something a little more advanced head over to the British Sailing Team YouTube channel for the daily themed broadcasts (Monday to Thursday). With schedules for both Youth and Junior sailors you’ll find a huge number of videos with tips and advice on everything from kit set up, coaching and keeping fit to strategy and reading the weather.

For racing sailors and aspiring race officials we also have a Wednesday evening series introducing and explaining the racing rules of sailing which will help you make sense of the right of way rules, how to deal with marks, obstructions and more. Each session, which is presented by a different rules expert each week, will be available through the RYA YouTube Channel.

It’s a challenging time for clubs both financially and in terms of keeping members engaged and ‘active’. The ClubZone playlist is where you will find everything to help ensure your club and membership is in as good a shape as possible when restrictions are lifted, with the Thursday Club Development Show and #FundingFriday amongst the highlights.

Meanwhile, eSailing has been hugely popular! Hundreds of sailing clubs, class associations and other organisations UK-wide are running eSailing races and events on Virtual Regatta. There are heaps of e-sailing race coaching and helpful tips videos to be found on the eSailing - Virtual Regatta playlist. Watch out for a new video every Saturday morning.

And in case that all wasn’t enough, the #SailFromHome playlist is where you will find all of this and so much more, with tales from the ocean from the likes of Dee Caffari, winning Olympic gold medals with Sarah Ayton and boat maintenance tips and advice across the full boating spectrum.
