Sign up for Sail GP Inspire Programme with Sailingfast, at the RYA Dinghy Show

27 Feb 20

Sailingfast are delighted to enable visitors to the RYA Dinghy Show, (29 February – 01 March, Alexandra Palace, London) to sign up for the Sail GP Inspire Racing Programme on Stand B66.

SailGP is an annual, global racing championship. Epic battles between nations and top athletes, all played out in front of populated harbours for maximum spectator involvement. If you haven’t come across Sail GP yet, you soon will as they come to Cowes, IOW, UK in August 2020.

Inspire is SailGP’s community, education and outreach initiative. SailGP have partnered with WASZP to enable U20 youth sailors the chance to fly at high speeds above the water like the SailGP athletes. It’s cool, fast and thrilling, with technical skill and sheer enjoyment at its core.

Sixteen youth sailors, split 50/50 – 8 male and 8 female, will be selected to participate on foiling WASZP dinghies on the Solent from 11 - 15 August.

You can register your interest in the SailGP Inspire programme if you are under 20, have an interest in sailing and by completing the sign-up form which you can find on the Sailingfast Stand in the Great Hall on stand B66.

Sailors will be selected in July 2020 by a SailGP committee based on specific criteria including: sailing ability; willingness to learn new skills; positive attitude to the sport; ambition and demonstrating the potential to become a future SailGP athlete. Applications close on 28 June, 2020.

Sailingfast have been the UK Dealer for WASZP since 2016 and the class now numbers over 80 boats in the UK. Duncan Hepplewhite, Sailingfast owner says, “This is such an exciting initiative, it opens foiling up to the wider sailing community. I’m really looking forward to seeing the SailGP boats flying around the Solent in August.”

You can find the Sailingfast stand at B66 in the Great Hall. Pop by the stand and sign up! You will also be able to watch the action from SailGP Sydney which is taking place over the Dinghy Show weekend while you sign up.

You can also see Duncan on the West Hall Stage at 4pm on both days, for his talk ‘Dinghy sailing into the next decade’. Duncan will be talking about how dinghy sailing might evolve in the next decade and how to attract young people to the sport.
