The RYA Scotland team are delighted to welcome Jill Reid as the new Youth (U25) Director on the RYA Scotland board. Jill brings a wealth of experience from her time on the University of Aberdeen Sailing Club committee, having served in various roles including that of Commodore.
Now working for the University of Edinburgh Sports Union, Jill’s passion for increasing opportunity and engagement within sport is evident.
Jill is also active within the RYA Scotland coaching pool, and brings additional experience from her time at Attenborough Sailing Club prior to University. We look forward to welcoming Jill to her first board meeting at the end of March.
Speaking on her appointment, Jill said:
“I’m really excited to get involved in this new role. Young people are the future of the sport, and I want to ensure they feel heard, valued and supported in an inclusive and accessible sailing community.
“Coming from a small sailing club, I understand the challenges young sailors can face, and I’m eager to help represent their voices and create opportunities for them to thrive.”
If you’re also passionate about representing the voice of young people within our sport, keep an eye out on the RYA Scotland website and socials over the coming months, as we build upon the RYA Scotland ‘Youth Voices’ initiative which kickstarted last year as a series of activations and surveys.
We’ve been busy turning what you’ve told us into what’s gearing up to be an exciting opportunity for young participants within our sport moving forwards.
