Between the UK 707 National Championships at Port Edgar Yacht Club last week, and the ongoing 8 Metre World Cup in Helensburgh – it’s been all go on the Scottish yacht and keelboat scene.
And, making the most of the strong Scottish breeze, there’s certainly been some tight racing on show.
707 action got underway at Port Edgar on the 15th of August, with nearly 30 crews getting afloat.
In the end, it was Tsunami II who took the title. While collecting top prize, helm Gilles Munro was quick to praise the hard work of the race committee and volunteers from Port Edgar who made it all possible in often challenging conditions.
It was also a regatta to be proud of for Leeds University, who finished first out of the three participating University teams.
Commenting on the event, helm Guy Bishop said:
“The association are very very friendly to us, always really keen to get us up here. Always really encouraging.”
And, for those who haven’t gotten enough of the 707 action, many are set to return to Port Edgar for the 707 ‘Sprints’ next month.

In the meantime, many will be keeping up to date with the historic 8mR class World Cup, which is running in Helensburgh until Saturday the 24th of August.
Hosted jointly by Royal Northern & Clyde Yacht Club and Mudhook Yacht Club – representatives from both clubs were delighted to welcome sailors through the doors earlier this week, with a proper Scottish welcome from the local pipe band.
With racing well underway, there’s still lots to play for between now and the weekend.
