Shotwick Lake sailor wins first Welsh eSailing Championships

Kieran Lewis of Shotwick Lake sailing club won the first ever Welsh eSailing Spring Championships over the weekend.

The RYA eSailing Spring Club Championship allowed all clubcompetitors the chance to compete for the title of not only RYA eSailingRegional Spring Club Champion but also to go forward to the  RYA eSailing Spring Club NationalChampionships on the 30th May 2020.

11 Sailors from clubs across Wales took part in 5 races, withthe action available to watch on the RYA Cymru Wales YouTube Channel.Clubs represented were Cardiff Bay Yacht Club, LlandudnoSailing Club, Merthyr Tydfil Sailing Club, Mumbles Yacht Club, North WalesCruising Club, Penarth Yacht Club, Port Dinorwic Sailing Club, Red Wharf BaySailing and Watersports Club, Royal Anglesey Yacht Club, Shotwick Lake SailingClub and Tata Steel Sailing Club.

Speaking of his win and preparation for the RYA eSailing Spring club championship, Kieran Lewis said: “It was really nice to speak to some different people for achange.  In preparation for this weekend,I’m going to get up earlier so I’m more awake! Although I’m not sure if thatwill work in my favour, given I seem to do well whilst still asleep…?”

RYA Cymru Wales CEO Gerwyn Owen said: “What an exciting eventwe had, the racing action was entertaining the commentary outstanding. I’d liketo thank everyone for taking part, it’s fantastic to see the boating communitycontinue to come together during these times.
