The MCA has been working on a new “Sport and Pleasure Code of Practice”, so legislation is updated to meet rapidly changing needs of the small commercial vessel sector.

The RYA, along with other industry stakeholders, is actively supporting the MCA by providing feedback as they draft this code to ensure any changes are proportionate, appropriate and serve their intended purposes.

The MCA has made several attempts over the years to implement a new code of practice. This new code will combine other existing codes and is expected to go for public consultation later this year, possibly as soon as early summer.

The impact of these changes will become clearer at that stage; however, the RYA’s hope is that the revised code will enhance safety and avoid any unwarranted burden on the sector.

The RYA will keep its members and partners informed on any relevant developments as this work progresses. If further action or influence is required during the consultation period, the RYA will seek wider support.
