The RYA’s Connected Conferences proved a huge hit once again in 2024, with more delegates from more affiliated organisations joining specialist RYA staff to share knowledge and learn from each other to help grow the sport and their member offerings.
The annual series of in-person nationwide Conferences continues to provide a powerful opportunity to bring the boating and watersports community together, with clubs, classes, Sailability centres and other affiliated organisations exchanging ideas, sharing best practice and success stories as well as problem-solving common challenges.
“Mind blowing”, “absolutely brilliant” and “so refreshing” were among the plaudits from 2024 attendees, and with dates set for the 2025 Connected Conferences you can mark your calendars today and be part of this autumn’s events:
RYA Cymru Wales will also host its ‘Big Weekend’ once again from 11-12 October 2025. Venues for all events are still to be confirmed.
If you weren’t able to make one of the 2024 Conferences – or if you did and you’re keen for more opportunities to learn and engage with RYA staff and peers from across the affiliate network – then our upcoming Connected webinars, workshops and forums provide the perfect platform.
Starting from 3 February 2025, webinars will take place on the first Monday of each month and will each run for an hour from 7pm.
Mark Jardine – Managing Editor at Sail-World.com and YachtsandYachting.com – will host the first three webinars of the 2025 series, where we’ll be delving into the following topics:
Growing club membership & activity
3 February 2025, 7pm
Club membership in the UK has decreased and activity levels can be a challenge, yet there are some of clubs who are bucking the trend. This is an opportunity to hear from them to find out what are they doing differently. With guests including Yeadon Sailing Club, Colne Yacht Club and Northampton Sailing Club.
Increasing racing activity
3 March 2025, 7pm
The number of boats on club racing start lines in the UK is reducing. In this webinar, we’ll explore some of the reasons for this, and hear from some clubs who are managing to stem the tide and grow their racing participants.
Diversifying your offer & non-competitive activity
7 April 2025, 7pm
Our waterways can be enjoyed in so many different ways. In this session we’ll hear from clubs who have broadened their activities to attract and engage potential members with varying interests and motivations outside of racing.
Our Connected regional in-person workshops and forums will also dig further into key topics such as safety management systems – what they are, ideas sharing and potential solutions to gaps in your systems – as well membership retention strategies, fostering long-term loyalty and ideas to build a strong sense of belonging and community within your club.
