Welsh Youth and Junior Championships Goes Virtual

With the ‘Wet’ Welsh Youth and Junior Championships 2020 postponed due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, RYA Cymru Wales wanted to keep sailors racing through e-sailing

Over the weekend just under 40 sailors took part in thefirst ever Welsh e-sailing championships. The racing was run using VirtualRegatta and sailors were in touch with each other through zoom.

Fleets included a RS Terra, Optimist, Topper, and a GeneralHandicap/ Coach/ Parent Fleet.

Sarah McGovern, RYA Cymru Wales Performance Manager andEvent Director said: "It wasgreat to see so many sailors taking part in the e-racing. Though we couldn'trun the Welsh Youth & Junior Championships we were still able to providethe opportunity for sailors to practice their strategy and tactics and tointeract with other sailors over Zoom. We are also able to offer racing toParents and Coaches who would normally we volunteering or working at the event.Thank you to Jonny McGovern for helping run some of the racing. Hopefully wecan get back on the water for some sailing and racing soon!"
