RYA Certificates of Competence are respected worldwide, proving your experience and competence as a skipper. Before booking your exam, please make sure you have read the requirements and completed the relevant forms listed below.
Whichever way you book your exam, you will need to complete an application form. Please download the one relevant to your exam, complete it and hand it to your examiner at the start of your exam:
You can use the links below to book an exam. Please allow a minimum of 10 working days for an examiner to be allocated to you.
If you are taking an RYA training course prior to your exam or need to use a training centre's boat to take your exam, you can ask your centre to book the exam for you. To find your nearest centre go to Where's My Nearest and select 'Training Centres'.
Exams outside the UK must be organised through an RYA training centre recognised for practical cruising courses or advanced powerboat courses (as appropriate). The centre must notify the RYA of any exams outside the UK and the location must be approved by the RYA.
