We have made tremendous progress, becoming an Onboard club and a Sailability club. Having an access boat was the first step in getting more people on the water. The next step is to help those with more complex moving and handling requirements.

Delph Sailing Club

A club that won special recognition for being “Inclusive and Open to All” aims to get even more people with mobility issues out sailing.

During 2019 Delph SC were able to refurbish their jetty. This ensured it was wide enough and sufficiently buoyant to serve wheelchair users, but was only suitable for members who could self-transfer to use their Hansa 303 Wide access boat. To make the boat available to as many members as possible they needed to install a Hansa hoist, but were short of the necessary funds to buy one and further reinforce the jetty to accommodate it.

Due to COVID-19 Delph has had to suspend their sailability programme until April 2022. But with the hoist in place thanks to a contributing grant from the RYA Foundation, they will be able to improve their offering to members and visitors, and increase participation even further.
