Volunteer opportunities with The Royal Yachting Association.

The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) is the national governing body for dinghy, yacht and motor cruising, all forms of sail racing, RIBs and sports boats, windsurfing and personal watercraft and a leading representative for inland waterways cruising. Used by the Police, Royal Navy and the RNLI, over 270,000 people every year achieve an RYA qualification.

We provide a voice to represent the rights & freedoms of recreational boaters, and are committed to reflecting and representing the diversity of the UK. The RYA was the first National Governing Body to achieve the Advanced level of the Equality Standard for Sport. As a core value, inclusion is championed from the board down and as a National Governing Body we aim to Impact, Inspire and Influence all of our affiliated clubs, recognised training centres and class associations to embrace diversity and challenge any form of discrimination.

About the Regional Volunteer Team (RVT)

The Regional Volunteer Team provides a point of contact between the grassroots of the sport and the RYA, raising awareness about the resources available. It provides an important link between affiliated clubs, centres and the RYA enabling sharing of skills, best practice and getting feedback. Members of the team are spread all over Yorkshire and the North-East and are all passionate about sailing and boating.

We deliver a range of events to support clubs and centres with their development and we are looking for individuals passionate about grassroots activity to join the team. This is a great opportunity to apply your skills to support the sport, while gaining valuable professional, leadership and governance experience.

We are looking for people with the following skill sets to volunteer approximately 4 hours a month

• Event management
• PR & Comms
• Digital
• Legal

The positions are voluntary; travel expenses are provided to attend meetings and relevant events. The term of involvement is for 12 months (with the option to extend)

You will be involved with

• Supporting RYA campaigns, events and awards to help develop a vibrant future for the sport
• Enabling venues, staff, volunteers and instructors to make the most of any funding, training and development support available
• Facilitating the development of on-the-water and club office/management volunteer skills
