Tribunal Chair

 

The Royal Yachting Association, based in Hamble, near Southampton, is the national governing body for all forms of recreational, competitive and professional boating.  It represents dinghy and yacht racing, motor and sail cruising, RIBs and sportsboats, windsurfing, inland cruising and personal watercraft.  


Job Role:  Tribunal Chair


Remuneration: Reasonable expenses


Role type: Voluntary 


The RYA is seeking expressions of interest from those with the skills to chair the RYA Tribunal.

We need applicants who have:

  • Experience of disciplinary processes, tribunals or officiating within sport.
  • Knowledge of boating activity, either from a competitive or non competitive perspective.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

Who can:

  • Lead a tribunal panel.
  • Exercise impartial judgment.
  • Consider complex situations and arrive at reasoned decisions.
  • Manage challenging hearings and conflicting points of view. 
  • Be tactful, diplomatic and responsive to the views of others.

The RYA Tribunal is a non-policy forming Committee of the RYA Board. The Tribunal exists to exercise all powers of the RYA to hear and determine matters requiring a quasi-judicial decision. 

The Tribunal is convened as often as is necessary, usually in the region of 4 times a year, and may meet physically or remotely depending on the nature of the issues to be considered.

  • Selected candidates will be invited to a formal interview (in person or online)
  • A recommendation is then made to the RYA Board regarding appointment
  • Outcomes are confirmed in writing to all candidates
