A chance to bring elite sport to life. Inspire future generations and shape the stories that matter.

The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) is looking for an ambitious, strategically minded and creative PR Manager for British Sailing.

This is a unique opportunity to shape the public voice of high-performance sailing, change perceptions and help cement the future of our sport.

In addition to celebrating medal moments, you’ll be amplifying the positive power of sport. You’ll use the reach and influence of elite athletes to showcase the broader social impact of sailing from environmental responsibility to mental wellbeing, from youth development to community connection.

This is an exciting, fast-paced role built on a legacy of sporting success where you will:

  • Lead bold, purpose-led PR campaigns that promote British Sailing, the wider World Class Programme and the associated pathways aligned with the RYA’s strategy and values.
  • Uncover and share the stories behind the medals – highlighting how sailing supports wellbeing, personal growth, and wider societal conscious thinking.
  • Work closely with elite athletes, giving them the tools to become advocates for change and positive role models beyond their sport.
  • Manage media operations and engagement, acting as a trusted spokesperson and press office lead across domestic and international events.
  • Create integrated PR plans across traditional, digital and social channels that cut through, inspire and reflect societal diversity and relevance of the sport today.
  • Collaborate with partners, sponsors and internal teams to ensure messaging is cohesive, values-driven, and impact-focused.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has solid experience in PR, ideally in sport, lifestyle or purpose-driven environments.
  • Knows how to shape strategy, manage media and tell stories that spark interest and drive action.
  • Knows how to build lasting relationships with athletes, journalists, coaches and commercial partners.
  • Understands the power of sport to influence culture, engage communities and create positive change.
  • Enjoys working in a team that values ambition and collaboration – and can handle the intensity of big moments with calm and focus.

The RYA offers a range of benefits which include:

  • 36 days holiday including public holidays (pro rata for part-time employees)
  • Birthday Day Off
  • 10% RYA contribution to a personal pension scheme
  • Free life insurance
  • Discounts platform for retail, entertainment, holidays & gym membership
  • Two paid volunteering days per annum
  • Free charging point for electric vehicles whilst on your working days at the office
  • Social events
  • RYA membership

Why join us?

This is your chance to work at the cutting edge of performance sport, while helping to redefine what success looks like. You'll join a forward-thinking, supportive team that values innovation, impact and staying relevant. Your time will be spread between the beautiful Hamble (where the wider PR team is based), some time in Weymouth at the home of British Sailing and some international travel opportunities. We offer hybrid working options alongside flexible TOIL policies. This role offers a rare chance to combine your passion for sport with purpose-driven PR work.
