Map descriptor

First Impressions count!

On all of the personlised printed resources there is not only your club contact but also the link to the RYA Discover Sailing Map. The descriptor on this map is a great opportunity to let the public know what is on offer at your event.

Great descriptors can be a real incentive to encourage the public to attend your event! So what should you put in there?

  • Brief description of what’s on offer
  • Any information on social activities that are happening, barbecues, tea& cake etc
  • What your visitors should bring
  • A warm welcome

For example:

We look forward to welcoming you to our friendly club. Our experienced volunteers look forward to taking you out on the water, and share their enthusiasm for sailing. We will also be providing tea and cake afterwards in our comfortable club house. We are happy to provide you with buoyancy aids but it’s best to bring some warm clothes that you don’t mind getting wet in. There are comfortable changing facilities on site if required.

Or:

Ever wanted to try sailing? Now is your chance! Our friendly club is opening its doors and would like to invite you to come and join us on the water for some fun and relaxation. Our experienced volunteers will be there to show you the ropes. All you need is some clothes you don’t mind getting wet, a towel and a sense of adventure! We will also be laying on a barbecue and drinks afterwards. We look forward to seeing you there!

Or:

Come and join us for a family sail along the river/lake/seafront. Our boats are big enough for all the family to sail together and along with our experienced volunteers you will discover how much fun can be found on the water. Afterwards our friendly members will be there to let you know how to find out more about sailing along with some delicious tea and cake. We very much look forward to giving you a warm welcome.
