Women on the water sailing session

STC logo web

World Sailing’s international Steering the Course campaign aims to introduce women and girls across the globe to the sport of sailing and promote further opportunities for those already involved.

If your venue runs women on the water sessions, female club races, or any other initiatives then we would love to hear from you!

You may also want to celebrate the women at your club including coaches, instructors, mark layers, race officials, helm or trimmers and volunteers.

Tag us on social media

The RYA will once again be supporting the campaign on our social media channels. Clubs taking part are invited to share their activities by tagging the RYA and #SteeringTheCourse in your posts.

Ideas for increasing female participation at your club or centre:

  1. Taster sessions
  2. Organise races that must be helmed and/or crewed by women
  3. Run training sessions for women to become instructors, coaches and race officials
  4. Actively encourage more women into senior leadership roles
  5. Enhancing representation of women and girls in communications and marketing highlighting opportunities, achievements and benefits of increased participation for women and girls
  6. Support women’s social events, talks and knowledge transfer to create clear space for women to participate and build networks
  7. Starting the conversation with your female members about what is needed to enable them to get out of the water more often
