Open training

National Level coaching in Your Region

RYA Cymru Wales aim to run Youth and Junior Open Training in the North, South and the West of Wales to support local clubs and sailors. Sailors can choose which training sessions they would like to attend and can sign up to all sessions or pay as you go.

Our intention is to have class specific training for those classes with larger numbers and then to have an ‘OnBoard introduction to racing’ group who can take part in any class of boat.

Who can attend?
  • Sailors 8 years and above
  • Can independently sail around a course in 8-15 knots of wind
  • Is able to sail on the water for a 1-2 hr sessions
  • Has been sailing at a club or centre for at least one season
  • Is able to launch and recover their boat with some support
  • Is eager to learn
  • Has their own boat or access to a boat. If you need help finding a boat to use please get intouch and we will see if we can help
  • Sailors from Welsh Squads can also sign up

Travel and Events

Training is run Regionally to minimise travel. Sailors can however choose to travel to another Region for training if you would prefer.

Sailors are promoted to take part in the CYRC series and the RYA Cymru Wales events. For those looking to take part in Class Ranking events there will be the opportunity to sign up to RYA Cymru Wales event support.

The RYA Cymru Wales Open Training is heavily subsidised by Sport Wales however a contribution is required from sailors.

As an additional incentive if you sign up to all 5 training sessions you will be offered a reduced rate. You can also pay as you go at a slightly higher rate.

Single hander - Pay as you go £50 per weekend, £25 per day

Double hander (cost per boat) - Pay as you go £60 per weekend, £30 per day

We aim to have National level coaches working in the Regions to help support clubs and sailors.

RYA Cymru Wales coaches are fully qualified, DBS checked and we are very lucky that we have an extremely experienced group of Welsh Coaches throughout Wales.

Open Training means a lot to me. It has allowed me to meet more people in the sailing community and the coaches provided me with all the support I needed to boost my confidence, to enter races and achieve my goal of qualifying for the National Squad
