Coastwatchers

The main function of a Coastwatcher is to be the local ‘eyes and ears’ of the RYA NI Cruising and Environment Committee

Coastwatchers support the work of the RYA Northern Ireland by:

  • Reporting any marine developments, alterations and issues in their area.
  • Responding to any DAERA NI Marine Licence Applications that are forwarded to the Coastwatcher. This will involve contacting local interested parties and processing feedback. Timescale for returning responses is usually about two weeks.
  • Supplying any local news or issues of interest for the RYA Members Magazine. Short articles and photographs are requested. The Coastwatcher will be contacted quarterly and the deadline is usually about two weeks ahead of notification. It is not necessary to provide an article for every publication, just when there is something to report. Not everything sent to the Editor is published.
  • Reporting anything in the area that is thought to be of interest to the RYA.

RYA NI may contact the Coastwatcher to obtain the local view on an issue.
