Fresh funding announced for businesses in England

08 Apr 21

A new Restart Grant Scheme has been launched by the Government this week, providing funding of up to £18,000 to eligible businesses in England.

Businesses classified as non-essential retail will be eligible for one-off cash grants of up to £6,000, while businesses in the hospitality, accommodation, leisure, and gym sectors will be eligible for one-off grants of up to £18,000. The amount paid to eligible businesses is dependent on the businesses’ rateable value.

Funding for the Scheme has now been received by local councils and it will under their discretion to determine whether businesses meet the eligibility criteria. Councils have been encouraged by the Minister for Sport and Tourism, Nigel Huddlestone MP and Minister for Small Business, Consumers & Labour Markets, Paul Scully MP, to ensure that the distribution of funding happens as quickly and as smoothly as possible to relieve pressure on businesses.

Your business may be eligible if it is:

  • based in England
  • business rate-paying
  • in the non-essential retail, hospitality, accommodation, leisure, personal care or gym sectors
  • trading on 1 April 2021

Applications for the Restart Grant Scheme are open now. Clubs and Recognised Training Centres are advised to contact their local council for further information and to apply.
